This is a song written by Steve Van Zandt of the E Street Band and Sopranos fame. What caught my attention first about him was his passion for human rights.
I first heard I am a Patriot on one of his records, but I learned it from the band that followed The Great Peace March, a coast to coast march for nuclear disarmament. The main singer and guitarist, Doug McWilliams had also played with a duo called Windwords, that group changed for me all I thought I knew about the guitar.

Anyhow, Jackson Browne taught them the song in some desert campsite in New Mexico, I always imagined. They passed it on to me, and it became a staple for me in my earliest days as a musician.
Once while singing it in Madison Wisconsin, I had a transformative moment, closing my eyes and leaving my body to sing the song. When I opened them again, I had a very good crown, but more importantly, I found that place in music we all seek.
I am posting this today, because it is getting some radio play this weekend. I imagine it's because of the Marches around the globe. I had a chance to play in Cleveland. I sang This Little Light of Mine, and Remember Who We Are.
